McKalip with Lydecker

Former firefighter Joel Lydecker was critically injured in a car crash and lay in a coma for weeks.  Neurosurgeon David McKalip, M.D. did not know if Lydecker would live or die, but where there was life, he was determined to do all he could to help the man survive.  He did.  Here he visits with McKalip at the doctor's office to say, "Thank you."  Click here for ABC 28 story.

No to care by committee

OpEd to the St. Petersburg Times

President Barack Obama is right that the status quo has gotten us to a point where health insurance and medical costs are unaffordable for Americans. That status quo is one in which governments and large insurance companies hold all the money and power — and this would not change under any congressional proposal. In fact, Congress and the president would require every citizen to buy insurance or pay a penalty of 2.5 percent of their income. And Congress will reinforce the status quo with state-imposed rationing.  FULL ARTICLE

Americans enjoy the highest quality medical care in the world and Doctors for Patient Freedom (DPF) wants to make sure it stays that way.  Many challenges face us, especially as the cost of health insurance skyrockets and corporations, government and insurance companies try to tell patients what kind of care they can receive from their doctors.

Doctors for Patient Freedom is joining doctors and patients to find solutions to rising health costs that make sure quality stays high and patients stay in control by their side.

We remember...
From Washington to Tampa Bay and thousands of communities across America, millions turned out for 912 rallies.  In DC, organizers estimate 1.5 to 2 million were on The Mall with the overflow filling Pennsylvania Avenue.  On Tampa Bay, 912 groups from Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater had a Fox/Glenn Beck viewing at Gasoline Alley in Largo.  More than 700 packed inside, with an overflow of more than 300.  Meanwhile, in Lakeland, some 1500 braved heavy rains to rally for America.  Americans are standing up for health care freedom everywhere.

More we remember...
Tampa St. Pete Congresswoman Kathy Castor refuses to see healthcare freedom constituents.

Kathy CastorOn Friday, September 4, 2009, leaders of Tampa Bay 912 groups held a news conference in front of Democrat Congresswoman Kathy Castor's Tampa office asking that she visit with healthcare freedom constituents.  Dr. McKalip joined them and the group filed into Castor's office foyer to AGAIN request a meeting with her.

Earlier in the day Castor had even refused to discuss health system reform with local television reporters.

During the August recess Castor had granted private audiences to Union representatives.  In the opening days of the August Congressional recess, she delivered scripted remarks at a Town Hall Meeting dominated by labor groups while hundreds of citizens opposed to government run medicine were ushered out of the room and forced to wait outside.  See video of that Town Hall meeting here.
